As the Raton girls basketball teams travelled to Santa Fe the St Mikes boys teams made their way up I-25 and simply dominated the Tigers Friday evening February 3, in Tiger Gym culminating both games with running clocks in the second half of the games.
The JV game saw Raton hold on to single digit quarters the entire game while St Mikes did double digit quarters with aggressive play and shooting. Raton simply couldn’t handle the St Mikes defense or offense as St Mikes worked the ball and made the points to end the game 69-27.
Raton struggled with the St Mikes double team play as they did with Robertson Wednesday night. Turnovers or loose balls plagued Raton all night and many of those loose balls ended in St Mikes points. The referees allowed the boys to play the game but Raton saw WD Hyer leave early as he fouled out in the fourth.
Again the third quarter was not kind to the Tigers as they only managed five points while St Mikes dropped in 22. While the boys never gave up it seemed as though the basketball was often covered with something as the shots simply would fall and the tall Horsemen made rebounding difficult at best. The second half of the game was a running clock which shortened the already runaway game.
