2019 Summer of Color Event Series: Migratory Bird Festival ~ Sugarite Canyon State Park

World Migratory Bird Day Festival

Ever seen a hawk up close and personal? Or enjoyed doughnuts and coffee while watching several bird species at a nearby bird feeder? Or taken part in an easy walk for beginning birders? These experiences will be on hand for the World Migratory Bird Day Festival at Sugarite Canyon State Park.

A schedule of event times:

6:55 a.m. Early Bird Special! Join us at the Visitor Center for coffee & treats to watch birds such as goldfinches at the feeders.

8 a.m. Bird Walk for Beginners. Meet at the Visitor Center for an easy half-mile walk along Chicorica Creek. Binoculars and guides provided.

9 a.m. Coffee with a Ranger. Come to the Lake Alice Campground for coffee and doughnuts and some camp-chair birding. Binoculars and guides provided.

9 a.m. Introduction to Bird Photography. Join birding expert Tony Godfrey at the park Visitor Center to learn the basics. Bring either a smart phone or camera.

10:30 a.m. Just for Kids. Soda Pocket Amphitheater. Bird-related crafts, games and activities for kids. Designed for kids 6-12.

2 p.m. The Big Guys! Soda Pocket Campground. Come meet live birds of prey!

4 p.m. The Big Guys! Lake Alice Campground. Come meet live birds of prey!

4 p.m. Lake Maloya Clean-Up Main Boat Ramp. Help us save birds from plastic trash like fishing line. Gloves/trash bags provided. Ages 12 and up.
