Raton City Commissioners met Tuesday evening, September 4th at 5:00 p.m. for a quick meeting to accept bids on the Great Blocks project and approve the Lodger’s Tax Board recommendations for advertising.
Karen Sterns told commissioners that two bids were received and both well over the budgeted amount for Phase One of the Great Blocks Project. Abraham’s Construction bid $536.808 and H.O. Construction bid $411,030. Since H.O. Construction was the low bid Sterns told commissioners that they began negotiations in an attempt to reduce the bid to fit within the $315,707 budgeted amount which is partially funded by New Mexico Department of Transportation.
RPS will perform the electrical work for the project and the city will provide backfill and take a lot of the construction debris to be recycled while city crews will install trash receptacles and benches for the project. With these revisions H.O. revised their bid down by $94,713. Based on the bid prices and including New Mexico GRT their new bid was $351,339.82. (Link to Great Blocks Phase One Project Plans)
The Lodger’s Tax Advisory board recommended awarding KRTN Radio $6,600 and KCRT Radio $5,400 for radio advertising for the upcoming year. This is basically a renewal of the current advertising agreement.
Commissioners adjourned the meeting and will meet again next Tuesday, September 11, for their first regular meeting of September at 6:00 p.m.
