In Memory of Shannon Renee Ortiz Hastings

Shannon Renee Ortiz Hastings 
(October 10, 1968 – October 8, 2013)

 

Shannon Renee Ortiz Hastings was called to be with the Lord on October 8, 2013. Shannon was born on October 10, 1968 in Raton, NM where she was raised and graduated from Raton High School.

She was known as an excellent athlete in both basketball and track, accomplishments including: New Mexico state high jump champion in both her Freshman and Senior years, placed third in the high jump at the Junior Olympics in Seattle, Washington, set a Raton High School high jump record at 5’8”, (a record she still holds) all district basketball selection, and basketball homecoming queen. After graduating from high school she moved to Denver, Colorado to pursue an education in commercial design at the Colorado Institute of Art, eventually choosing a different career path in the medical field. Shannon owned and operated her own home health care agency, work which will be carried on by her daughter Justine.

Shannon was outgoing and never shy. Her personality was one that made people laugh and smile whenever she was in the room. Above all was her deep love for her children, granddaughter and family.

She is survived by her daughter Justine Lazano and her husband Andrew, her granddaughter Lyla Jade, her son Adam Hastings, her mother Josephine (Jo) Ortiz and brother Manny Ortiz. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Shannon was preceded in death by her father Ted Ortiz, her maternal grandmother Lala Caridad, and her paternal grandparents, Amalio and Celina Ortiz.

While Shannon may not be seen or heard, she will always be with us in our hearts, thoughts, memories, and prayers.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held on Saturday October 19th at 9:00am at St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church recited by the Legion of Mary. Solemn Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 9:30am with Father John Trambley as the Celebrant. Rite of Committal and Inurnment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements for Shannon Renee Ortiz Hastings are under the direction of the Alderette Pomeroy Funeral Home of Raton.

    Shay you are going to be missed. Your amazing energy will live on in all of our lives. I will never forget the Epic Thanksgiving last year. Thanks giving will never be the same again, I am so thankful that I was able to see you just before god called for you. Your beauty will forever live in my heart.
