Raymond C. Lopez was born in Raton, New Mexico on May 20th, 1952, to Alfred M Lopez and Aurora” Rosie” Lopez. He was raised in Maxwell, New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, mother-in-law, Lucy Torres, Uncle Benny Lopez, grandsons Theron Valdez, Christopher Samora, Benjamin Velasquez, granddaughters Ariel Valdez and Jeanie Valdez, and wife Evelyn Valdez. He died in Trinidad, Colorado on September 11th, 2026. He is survived by his babies: Pheona (Ethan) and Carli; his sons: Ryan, Michael (Lorrie), and Chris, his siblings: Alfred D Lopez, Richard Lopez, and John Lopez, Virginia Lax, Rosella Haway, Denise Archuleta, and their spouses; along with many stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and loved ones. Raymond was a Navy Veteran in Vietnam that completed two tours during the war. He was a man of courage, strength, determination, and stubbornness. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan that cheered them on, every year, every game. He and his wife Evelyn ran a local bar for years, The Wagon Wheel. They hosted dances and swayed to their own tune. In his last years, he spent most of his time with his good friend, Tim Pena, and his stepdaughter and part-time caretaker, Valorie Velasquez. At the end, Raymond was ready to return to the Lord and be united with the love of his life.
Services will be held at Holy Trinity Church, beginning with the rosary at 9:30am, followed by the funeral mass at 10:00am and with military honors at Sister Blandina’s Garden immediately following the funeral mass, on Friday, October 23, 2026.
