NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING AND PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 2026-03
PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Governing Body of Colfax County will hold
a public hearing on proposed Ordinance No. 2026-03 entitled:
An Ordinance for authorizing Limited Cross Commissions and Requiring Employing Agency
Defense Indemnity and Liability Coverage.
The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, November 10th , 2026, at 8:30 a.m., located in the
Colfax County Administration Building Commission Chambers (third floor) at 230 N 3rd St,
Raton, NM, 87740. The Colfax County Commissioners may consider adoption of the ordinance
on Tuesday, November 10th , 2026, during the regular Commission Meeting.
This ordinance establishes requirements for Colfax County’s cross-commission program under
NMSA 1978, Sections 4-37-1, 4-38-1, 4-41-5 and 4-41-8 through 4-41-10. A cross Commission
is the Sheriff’s written appointment of another employing agency’s law enforcement officer as a
special deputy. Employing agency means the government or public entity, including an Indian
nation, tribe or pueblo, legally responsible for the officer’s employing department.

www.co.colfax.nm.us or during regular business hours at the office of the County Manager,
Colfax County Administration Building, 230 North 3rd St., Raton, NM.
