A prank call that came into Raton Dispatch about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening October 6, 2026, sent Raton PD, Colfax County deputies and New Mexico State Police to an address on Oliver Avenue.

A call came into dispatch from a male caller indicating that he had shot his mother in the chest. The call was blocked so dispatch could not call the individual back for clarification on the events that took place. As officers surrounded 312 Oliver Avenue residence the caller called back again on a blocked number toying with police saying he was coming out of the residence which never happened. It was later determined that the residence was not occupied at the time of the incident. The owners of the residence were out at K’Bobs for the Tuesday Evening Special.

During the incident, officers began checking the remainder of the block and on Berry Street which is across the alley from Oliver. Officers cleared the scene about 7:40 p.m.

The caller then called back to dispatch and told the dispatcher that it was a prank call and that he was in New York. Raton Dispatch contacted the FBI to place a trace on the call and hopefully find the individual who made the call.
