It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Nichole Rae Romero, beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, announces her untimely passing on November 20, 2024, at 12:18 pm in Golden, Colorado at the age of 47 years old.
Nichole Rae Romero was born on August 31, 1977, in Raton, New Mexico to Erlinda and Fred Romero Sr. Nichole is survived by her daughter Caylene Romero (partner Derek), mother Erlinda Romero, Blair Esquibel, partner of 15 years, sisters Carolyn Rossetti (husband Ronnie) and Donna Thiel (husband Gary), brother Fred Romero Jr. (wife Joanne), nephews Bryan (wife Amanda) and Josh Rossetti (wife Brianna), nieces Lisa DeWitt (husband Ken) and Christina Golden (husband Cody), and great-nieces and nephews, Brooklyn, Angelia, Haylie, Vincent, Chase, and Izabella. Nichole was predeceased by her father, Fred Romero Sr., whose memory she lovingly carried throughout her life and others she held dearly.
Nichole was an amazing mother. She worked hard to give Caylene the best life possible and was looking forward to retirement and moving to Las Cruces to be with her daughter. She shared a special bond with Caylene as mother, best friend, and role model. Caylene is Nichole’s greatest source of pride and joy.
Nichole was a loving daughter, mother, sister, auntie, and loyal friend. She had an especially close bond with her family and made time to talk with them on a daily basis. Her loving and giving nature also extended to animals, as she would make sure to feed the homeless cats around her home and over her lifetime provided a loving home for many dogs, including her most cherished dog, Sarco- whom she joins in heaven.
Nichole was a beacon of light and hope for anyone in her presence. Her smile and vibrant personality lit up the room. She was characterized as having a heart of gold, serving her community. Her career was focused on helping the communities throughout northern New Mexico including creating walking trails in Raton, worked on several projects supporting community members of all ages, and provided important support to help with the safety of the community during Covid. In her spare time, she volunteered at the humane society and was a loyal caregiver to her deceased father and elderly mother.
Nichole was a positive force in life who touched many from the loved ones that she graced with her presence daily to those she may have never even met, but whose lives she touched through her work as a public servant. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched and the many memories she helped create.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Nichole’s beautiful life at St. Patrick’s – St. Joseph’s Church at 105 Buena Vista Raton NM 87740 on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11:00 am

Prayers to the Romeo family and her beautiful baby girl, Cayleen. I was blessed to have known Nicole for only about 5 years; however, in those five years Nicole always showed me love and welcomed me into the family with open arms and big smiles. I will miss that smile, but I will always have it in my memory. Until we meet again prima, you will forever be in my heart. Rest in Paradise. <3
The beautifully written piece so reflects the wonderful woman that is Nichole. Gone way to soon from us here on earth, her loving spirit stays with us. As we continue to grieve, we take some solace in knowing she is released. Sending that love, mine, ours to dear Cay and all the family🙏🪬❤️🩹🕊️❤️
