Cardinals Dominate Tigers to Take Home Three Marks in the Win Column

The Tigers hosted the Cardinals from Robertson Tuesday evening February 20, for a district matchup that would prove to much for the Tigers as Robertson simply dominated and took home the wins.

In the C-team game the Robertson defense held Raton to single digit scoring through out the game as the boys simply couldn’t get the ball to fall when they did get a shot off. Turnovers and missed shots plagued the C-team and as Robertson pulled away it seemed to take the steam out of the Tiger offense. When the smoke cleared and the game was over Robertson took the win 72-14.

The JV game started out a bit better but it didn’t take long before the Cardinals began to pull away. Robertson lead at halftime 40-22 as they too dominated the court with turnovers and Raton struggled to make baskets. AS the clock continued to run down Raton woke up and in the fourth quarter came alive making fans wonder where the team was the first three quarters of the game. However in the end Robertson came out ahead 79-51.

As the varsity game got underway with a wild jump ball dominated by Robertson the Tigers took the early lead and watched it change four times before the Cardinals began to dominate the court and pull away in the second quarter. Raton struggled to get the ball to fall as several long shots fell short of the intended goal. Yet at the end of the first quarter Raton trailed by only three. The second quarter saw Raton fall well behind as the shot continued to miss the mark and Robertson made several steals and rebounds that turned to points.

Robertson again took the third quarter by a two to one point difference and pulled up by 35. When the fourth quarter got underway fans were left to once again wonder where were these Tigers as the Raton outscored Robertson by four in the fourth but it was too little to late to make a difference as Robertson went on to take the game 83-50.

Raton’s only district win was against St Mikes early in district play. St Mikes had four players out with injuries that day allowing Raton to take the win. Raton at this point in District play is 1-8 with only one more district game against Santa Fe Prep to finish off the season.
