In loving Memory of Ila Mangino

Ila (Stanton) Mangino born November 1, 1936, passed away February 10, 2024, at the Trinidad
Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and
Delora Stanton, her husband Sonny Mangino, and son Douglas Mangino, brother Wayne
Stanton and sister Nadine Maio. She is survived by her brother Stanley (Markala) Stanton and by her sons  Jeff (Judy) Mangino, Rick (Jolynne)
Mangino, John (Mary) Mangino and Tim (Lewana) Mangino, fourteen grandchildren and sixteen
great-grandchildren. She attended Hoehne High School graduating in 1954 and the following
year married her husband of 32 years, Sonny. They settled in Hoehne and began raising their
family.
Ila was a homemaker with many skills. She sewed snap button cowboy shirts for Sonny and the
boys, cheerleading outfits for the school cheerleaders, and later, western outfits for her
granddaughters for the annual Labor Day Downtown Night. She loved baking and made
wedding cakes for all five sons and birthday cakes for her grandchildren. One fond example
was Cinderella’s castle complete with a ceramic white carriage and a princess. She upholstered
John’s 1955 Ford and several chairs and couches. She had a sweet and calming disposition, a
warm and ready smile, and a deep love for her family evidenced by the annual Christmas
gatherings where carefully selected gifts and stockings filled the living room. Her contagious
laugh and clever wit live on in her much-loved grandchildren. For many years she provided day
care services out of her home for children who became life-long friends and ended up bringing
their children to daycare. After Sonny’s death, she started selling products for Home Interiors
and qualified for several trips to Nashville oftentimes traveling with her sister Nadine. Her final
career was working part-time at Farmers Insurance, retiring at the age of 80.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 16, 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church with
Pastor Cary Nelson officiating. Active pallbearers are her grandsons: Jonathan Mangino,
Brandon Mangino, Jeremy Mangino, Craig Somers, Josh Mangino, Bryton Mangino, Phillip
Alvarez and Anthony Alvarez. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters: Jina Malouff,
