Mora traveled to Raton for Raton’s first regular season game of the 2023-2024 basketball season and Raton’s first home opener in the regular season and they went home with three wins over the Tigers.
In the boys JV game Mora took an early lead and slowly worked to extend it out finishing the game with a 67 to 38 win.
In the girls game Mora once again took the early lead, holding Raton to only 14 points in the first half of play and four points in the second half. The Lady Tigers began the season in a bit of a dilemma as the upper class-men didn’t turn out for the team leaving coach Brylee Medina to build a team out of freshman and one sophomore. The girls have shown potential and some improvement since their first game in the TSC Tourney a couple of weeks ago.
It was a one point match in the first quarter of the boy’s game with Raton topping Mora 20-19. The second quarter saw Mora take the lead making the baskets needed while Raton stumbled from the field missing more shots than they made, only scoring seven in the second quarter. The Tigers remains cold from the field into the third quarter with Mora out scoring Raton 18-12. Raton woke up in the fourth to come back from a 12 point deficit and out score Mora by nine but ran out of clock to finish the game down by one.
