City Council Of The City of Trinidad Public Notice of Vacancy On The City Council

PUBLIC NOTICE

 

In anticipation of the impending City Council vacancy created by the election of Karen Griego as Mayor, the City Council of the City of Trinidad is accepting letters of interest and resumes, until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023, from citizens within the City to fill a vacancy on the City Council. Whoever is selected to fill the seat shall serve only until the next Regular Municipal Election, at which time the Electors shall elect a Council Person to serve the remainder of the unexpired term.  Any person who has held any Municipal elective office for a continuous period of eight (8) years is ineligible to serve on City Council for four (4) years thereafter, pursuant to the Home Rule Charter.

 

Eligibility requirements to hold municipal office are:

 

1)         Must be an eligible and registered elector of the municipality.

 

2)        Must be eighteen (18) years or older on the date of the election.

3)        Must have resided in the municipality for at least twelve (12) consecutive months         immediately preceding the date of election.  In the case of annexation, any person who has resided within the territory annexed for the prescribed time shall be deemed to have met the residency requirements for the municipality and precinct to which the territory was annexed.

 

4)        Must be a citizen of the U. S. for at least five (5) years.
