It was a picture perfect day in Raton as the boys of spring took the field Saturday morning with Raton hosting the Robertson Cardinals for a district double header and the last games of the 2023 baseball regular season.

Robertson started off the scoring with four runs in the first inning and would never look back as they held Raton to one run in the first and scoreless from there on. Wyatt Berry scored the only Raton run as he went to first on a walk, then stole his way around the bases to third where Jacob Mattorano batted one into center field to bring Berry in. Robertson pitcher Quik Cordova went the distance with nine strikeouts and five walks while Raton pitcher Azden Romero went three innings before Jacob Mattorano came in and Cameron Edmondson finished off the game for Raton. At the end of the fifth inning Robertson had rounded the bases for 20 runs to Raton’s single.

In the second game of the double header senior Adrian Romero went the distance for Raton with five strikeouts and one walk while Robertson’s Rico Montoya took the win in five innings. Again Robertson held Raton to one run this time in the fourth inning. GB Oliver was sent to first after being hit by a wild pitch and managed to steal bases and make it to third where Jacob Mattorano singled but was thrown out at first and scored Oliver. Robertson had scored 14 runs by the fifth inning and held Raton scoreless ending the game with the 10 run rule in the fifth.

Down in Vegas the Lady Cardinals took that double header with the Raton Lady Tigers 15-0 and 15-0 ending the regular season for Raton softball.
