The Raton City Commissioners met Tuesday evening December 13, 2022, for the last meeting of 2022 with the highlight of the meeting congratulating Frankie Mahannah for 50 years of service to the Arthur Johnson Memorial Library and noting his passion for volunteerism in Raton.
Frankie has been a fixture around Raton all his life where he has volunteered as a Raton Lion and Raton Ambassador. He has worked at the library keeping the newspaper subscriptions in order to help preserve the local history of Raton.
Commissioners then adopted the supplement to Ordinance 940 declaring an emergency. Commissioners then approved the grant with the State Library for $10,254.72 to support the library’s collections, staff salaries, professional development, equipment, and other operational expenses.
Commissioners approved budget adjustment #1 for the Juvenile Justice Grant. Commissioners approved the bid award to N&K Electric for replacement of lighting fixtures in in the Regional Aquatic Center, Shuler Theater and the Library. The lighting changes in the Shuler will be limited to safety lighting. N&K Electric was the low bid at $49,092.38 while Financial Energy Management Inc bid $78,559.00.
Commissioners approved Budget Adjustment #6 for FY23 that included line-item adjustments for the Welcome Center repairs Raton Branding project and others. (Link for Budget Adjustment #6 FY23)
Berry noted in his report that the downtown CDBG grant project is now complete as well as the paving project on Colfax Avenue. Berry went on to note that 2023 will be a big year in that the city has two paving projects both totaling around $1,000,000 each. Colfax County has approved the transfer of a 10 acre parcel in south Raton for the RPS solar project.
City Clerk Michael Anne Antonucci has issued the RFP for the first Metropolitan Redevelopment project which will be focus on the historic Coors Building and this is the next step in the downtown redevelopment. Berry also noted that the vacant building registration was due on October 1st.
The regular meeting for December 27, 2022, has been cancelled as adopted in the open meetings ordinance. The next regular meeting for the Raton City Commission will be January 10, 2023. It was also noted that City Hall will be closed on December 26 for Christmas and January 2, 2023 for New Year’s observance.
