It was a crazy day for basketball in Raton as the Lady Tigers hosted the Lady Cardinals for district play while the boys hosted Pecos for a non-district match with the JV boys the only team to come out with a win.
The JV boys played their game over at Raton Intermediate School at 4:00 p.m. while the JV girls played a scoreless first half at Tiger Gym. The Lady Cardinals JV squad made up of mostly freshman simply dominated the game and held Raton to a single digit score of four for a 69-4 loss.
The varsity Lady Tigers took the court and faired only slightly better against a very dominate Lady Cardinal defense with Sophie Medina dropping in her only two points of the game in the first quarter for Raton’s only score in the quarter. Second quarter action saw Raton pickup the pace and do double digits to go into half time with a 12-38.
Second half action saw Robertson dominate the court dropping in 26 more points while Raton was held to only 13. Final score at the end of the game 64-25.
The Pecos Panthers took the early lead in boys varsity game with with a fast paced and deadly scoring game missing very few shots in the first quarter to take a 21-14 lead over Raton. Second quarter action saw Pecos widen their lead even more to go into halftime with a 40-27 score. While Pecos seems to hit most all their buckets Raton struggled from the field fairing a little better from the charity line making four of five attempts in the first half.
Despite the fast paced game and determined Pecos defense Raton managed to score double digits in all four quarters. Pecos not only had double digits but 21 points in both the first and third quarters to pull out a 18 point deficit win for a 72-54 final.
