The Raton Humane Society awarded $25,000

The Raton Humane Society has been awarded $25,000 from funds distributed by the Animal Care and Facility Fund of the New Mexico Department of Agriculture, State of New Mexico Board of Veterinary Medicine.The funds are for free spay/neuter assistance to low income Colfax County residents. This amount is a result of legislative action in 2019 by the State of New Mexico and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

The funds must be used by the Raton Humane Society only for Colfax County low income residents with domestic animals. The recipients must prove a household income that does not exceed 200% of the current federal poverty level guidelines.

There will be a limit of four animals per household at this time, and will include all costs associated with a spay or neuter surgery, and rabies vaccination costs.

A $10.00 co-pay will be required from the recipient of funds at the time of the surgery.
Applications may be picked up at either Raton Veterinary Hospital or Mesa Vista Vet Hospital in Raton.
