John was born in Trinidad, Colorado on July 10th, 1955, to John and Mickey Martinez. He is survived by his mother Mickey of Trinidad, Co, son Michael Martinez, and companion Bev, daughter Rose Martinez, daughter Michelle Martinez, and companion James. he is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and sisters Leola Sandoval, Nancy Alfaro, and Lupe Gonzales.
He is proceeded in death by his father John Ray Martinez, brothers Marty Martinez and Joey Martinez, and wife Rosalie Martinez. John got his GED and graduated from Trinidad State Junior College as a diesel mechanic. He worked for York Canyon Coal Mine in New Mexico and later moved to Alabama to work at the North River Mine. John was well respected by his peers as he worked as a safety representative. He worked as a coal miner for 32 years before he retired. He was a member of the local UMWA 7949, District 22. John loved classic cars and watching westerns. May he rest in peace.
Services for John will be on December 3rd at 1:00 pm in Trinidad, Colorado at Comi’s Funeral Home. A dinner to follow at Las Animas County Fairgrounds Hall
