Johnny Bacca, a long time Raton resident, passed away December 14, 2020 from complications related to COVID-19. He was born May 2, 1924 in Starkville, Colorado, Johnny lived a full and happy life to the age of 96. His family moved to Raton when he was 7 years old. Johnny served in the United States Navy with pride during WWII, and after serving, married Mabel (Buhr) in 1947. He was a member of St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton and the Raton V.F.W. A member of the Raton Elks Lodge and the oldest member in New Mexico, he was the head of the kitchen crew, a group of good men and friends. Everyone should remember his witty sence of humor and hearty laugh. Johnny and Mabel were the owners and operators of Johnny’s Bakery and Coffee Shop in Raton for 40 years. Oh, how we miss those long johns!
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, two sons, Matt and Mark He is survived by sons John and wife Stella, Greg and Pat and daughter Carol and Cosmo and friend Dorothy Leahy. One grandson, Daniel and two granddaughters, Aston and Lily.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Friday June 11, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patricks-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church recited by Frank Camino Jr. Mass of the resurrection will follow at 11:30 with Father Rob Yaksich as the celebrant. Military Honors will be provided by the Raton V.F.W.
A reception will be at the Raton Elks Lodge at 1:30
By request of the family, If anyone would like to wear military uniform please do so in honor of Johnny.
