The St Mikes Horseman travelled up I-25 to Raton for a district matchup on the court Friday night April 9, 2021 and toppled the Tigers to add insult to injury after the Raton loss in Football just a couple of weeks back.
In the JV game it was the first half the did Raton in scoring a total of 13 points to St Mikes 28. third quarter action saw Raton out score St Mikes but it was far too little to bring them back into the game. St Mikes held Raton to only three points in the fourth quarter for the win.
Varsity action saw St Mikes dominate Raton in the first quarter holding Raton to only two points for most of the quarter before Matt Quartieri put in two free throws for Raton’s fourth points. Second quarter action was a big turn around for Raton as they dropped in 21 points to St Mikes 19. But it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit leaving Raton behind at halftime 36-25.
In the third quarter Raton and St Mikes swapped their second quarter scores Raton went on to outscore St Mikes in the fourth but again not enough to over come the first quarter deficit. The Tigers stuck to it and stayed with St Mikes through three quarters and had they not been so far behind in the first it would have been a barn burner of district game.
All teams have a busy week next week with games scheduled everyday but Monday.
