1ST BI-ANNUAL 4X4 REDEMTION RUN

1ST BI-ANNUAL 4X4 REDEMPTION RUN

Welcome to the first bi-annual 4×4 Redemption Run on County Road 85.5  We are holding this event on the 5th of July, 2020.  We will be forming up at the rifle range just east of town at 9:00 a.m.  A donation of $20.00 per vehicle would be greatly appreciated.  A representative of Noah’s Ark will be on hand to collect any donations.

We hope this will become an annual event with all of the proceeds from the first run going to Noah’s Ark in Trinidad.  Just prior to Labor Day on the 5th of September, 2020, we will again traverse the trail.  However, this time we will go from Sugarite to Trinidad.  The proceeds from that run will be donated to the Animal Shelter in Raton, N.M.

We would like to see this as a family event.  We have all been inside for too long.  This run will allow you and your family to get out and see a part of Colorado and New Mexico that few people have seen.  Be sure to bring a picnic lunch, as the meadows offer many sites for a quiet family picnic, and the views are amazing!  The various lakes on the trail in New Mexico offer great fishing; just be sure to have the right license.

This is a very unique and the last of the many early roads that were blazed during the founding days of our State’s history.  The road runs from east of Trinidad, Colorado, to Sugarite State Park in New Mexico.  The road is a very rough one-lane trail that crosses two streams, three gates that have to be opened and closed as cattle are on the loose.  In addition, the road surface is a worn and old bedrock for the most of the trail which presents a very hard and rough road.  However, once you cross over, ‘the pass’, the meadows of New Mexico present a different ride as the road crosses large, open fields which can be very muddy and quite slippery.

Therefore, it is highly recommended that you attempt this road only with a four-wheel drive.  I would also recommend that those of you with long wheelbase vehicles think twice before attempting this ride.  With care, you can make it through, it just won’t be a lot of fun.  The road is narrow and the bushes have not been trimmed back.  Scratch city for wide vehicles.  However, Jeeps and other short wheelbase vehicles should have no problems, and there has only been one section where I have to go to 4 wheel low.  That is the climb up to ‘the meadows’, about 100 yards long.

In conclusion, we would like to invite one and all to come out on Sunday morning the 5th of July, 2020 for a truly wonderful family adventure and a day of exploring the natural beauties of Coloraado and New Mexico.
