All three teams made a solid performance Thursday for the home town crowd as they played their last volleyball home match of the season in Tiger Gym and this was the last home match for the seniors this season.
Both the JV and C-team went the best of three games in their matches keeping all the games close. With the exception of the second C-team game the teams kept things pretty close and exciting.
The Raton varsity girls started out game one a little slow then came on with a bang when Montana Trujillo started a rally of that put seven points on the board for Raton as the girls made the plays at the net and slammed the ball over the net for points. Yet Raton fell a bit short as Tucumcari came on and tied the game late and pulled out ahead for the win with solid play at the net.
In the second game Raton struggled some but made up for it in fine fashion during the third game when Montana Trujillo again got the hot hand and Raton put 10 points on the board giving them a 10 point lead 23-13. That lead however took a nose dive as the up and down play hurt Raton, yet they pulled the game out at the end.
The fourth game was another back and forth volley with Raton taking the lead only to turn it over to Tucumcari and then take it back. The game was tied at 17 and then again at 23 and 24 before Tucumcari capitalized on a missed pass.
The girls will now go on the road for the rest of the district matches. their next match however will be in Las Vegas with Robertson and they will travel to Tucumcari next Saturday.
