Colfax County Sheriff Deputies were called to Highway 434 near mile marker 27 to investigate a fatal motorcycle accident on May 9 at about 11:00 p.m.

A Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by John A. LeBus, age 56, had hit the guardrail near mile marker 27, both LeBus and his passenger Crystal Romero, age 32, were ejected from the bike. Both sustained fatal injuries as a result of being thrown from the bike. It is believed that speed was a factor in the accident. The autopsy will reveal whether alcohol was also a factor as both individuals had been at  Zebadiah’s Bar and Restaurant in Angel Fire before LeBus and Romero left together.

Patrick Jesse Trujillo was charged with reckless driving and child abuse as a result of a single car rollover on Gardner Road Saturday afternoon, May 10, 2014. According to sheriff deputy Bill LaPorte who investigated the accident Trujillo was driving north on Gardner Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle slid sideways off the roadway where it hit the dirt embankment and rolled three times coming to rest on the roadway.

There were four other passengers in the vehicle, all under the age of 17. They were all transported to MCMC by Raton Fire and Emergency Services with non life threatening injuries.
