In Memory of Teodoro “Ted” Trujillo

Teodoro “Ted” Trujillo passed away on November 19th, 2013 at the age of 82. He was born on January 31st 1931 in Capulin, New Mexico to Claudio Secundino Trujillo and Josephita Cruz-Trujillo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Gilberto and Gustavo Trujillo and his son Manuel “Billy” Trujillo. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Lillian L. Trujillo his 4 children: John Trujillo and wife Bernadette, Teddy Trujillo and wife Kathy, Bobby Trujillo and Theresa Gonzales and husband Paul. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: John Trujillo, Daryl Trujillo, Diana Trujillo and fiancée Tyler, Shannon Pierce and husband Casey, Angel Trujillo and companion David, Joey Trujillo and companion Sara, Esequiel Trujillo and companion Alisha, Abbigail Duran, Michael Duran, Eric Martinez and Cody Trujillo, 2 great grandchildren Tristan Pierce and Adkin Trujillo, one brother Arturo Trujillo and wife Elaine one sister Ernestina Morlan and companion Joe, one sister-in-law Alice Trujillo and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

At age 15, he was stricken with polio, which left him with his left leg permanently weakened and shortened. He graduated from Kiowa High School in 1951 at age 20.  He married Lillian Armijo on June 18th, 1955 at age 25. They lived on the family ranch in Northeast New Mexico, for all of their married lives. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, blood sweat, and tears.  He was a tough rancher for all his life with tough work ethics. Ted herded sheep from the time he was a little boy into the mid 1950s, he worked on the Des Moines, Capulin, and Dawson highways in the early 1970s for a short period of time, then he and his father began raising and working cattle. He continued on in the cattle business for the remainder of his ranching career. Ted served as Colfax County Commissioner from 1993-1994

His way of life was that of a true old time rancher. He lived miles from his closest neighbor, he rode horses until he could no longer do so in the 1980’s, then he began to ride his ATV and roam the ranch checking cattle, fences and daily joy rides with his poodle ‘Pumpkin” in tow. He will be missed by many.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Saturday January 4th, 2014 at the St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s church in Raton recited by Larry Guara, Mass of the Resurrection will take place at 10:00 A.M. with Father John Trambley as the celebrant, Rite of Committal and internment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
