Windtalkers* is a 2002 American war film starring Nicolas Cage, Adam Beach, Mark Ruffalo and Christian Slater. The fictional script takes place during World War II as two U.S. Marines are assigned to protect Navajo Marines who use their native language as an unbreakable radio cypher.

*Rated R for pervasive graphic war violence, and for language

The real-life Navajo Code was  based on two parts:  1) the Navajo language (notoriously difficult to learn or to understand); and 2) a code embedded in the language, meaning that even native speakers would be confused by it. Supposedly, this code was close to unbreakable, but so difficult only a few people could actually learn it.
