In Loving Memory of Leon F. Gutierrez

Leon F. Gutierrez, 65, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 5, 2017 in Greeley, Colorado.

He was born April 26, 1952, to John and Beatrice (Lopez) Gutierrez, he was the Leon Gurterrz pic10th of 14 children. Leon lived in Trinidad all his childhood and most of his adult life. he attended area schools as well as TSJC and several trade schools  he was a CDL truck driver and enjoyed driving and running heavy equipment  . He worked for C.S. Railroad/ Burlington Northern. He was united in marriage to Velma Lamorie on July 26, 1975, after a five year courtship. In 2012 he relocated to Greeley Colorado

Leon had a love for children and helping others. Especially the special needs people along with his eldest daughter and wife. He drove the bus for head start TSD#1, TSJC, Upward Bound, and LACRC.  He loved every student he transported.  He was a custodian at TSJC at the Davis building for many years. Leon was employed for several companies in the Oil & Gas Industry around the Trinidad, Midland, and Greeley areas.

He enjoyed watching the Broncos with Joaquin and his side kick Luke. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fiishing, and camping with his favorite people. He had a passion for gardening and growing flowers for the Glory of Our Lord.

Leon loved to watch his kids and grandkids play sports and cheer them on. He was known as Grandpa G on the Union Colony Prep volleyball team. His daily routine would be to read his bible and get in the word of the lord, followed by making breakfast for Velma.

He was a devoted man of Faith who loved Our Lord. His fellowship with the Lord was very important to him. He was a mentor to many people.  He helped raise several of his nephews and nieces and even some of the neighbors’  children.  

 

Preceding in death his beloved eldest daughter Robyn, grandson Noah Eli, parents, father and mother in law Claude and Mary Lamorie, brothers Adam, Clyde, Michael, and Anthony, sisters in law Ethel and Sharlene Lamorie, brothers in Law and friend David Lovato, nephews JJ and Joshua Vigil and Corey Lovato.

 Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life Velma, daughter Gabrielle, sons Lejon and Joaquin, granddaughters Ashlee, Felicia, Autumn, and Ellegra, grandsons Isaiah, Calvin, and Luke, Sisters and brothers Linda, Maria, Johnny, Joe, Brenda, Geraldine, Nash, Yvonne, and Judy. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, many who he helped raise which he and many dear friends that he held near and dear to his heart.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2PM-6PM at the Comi Chapel.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 10AM at First Christian Church with Pastor Cary Nelson officiating.

Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.

 Honorary Pallbearers are Craig Lovato, Joe Vigil, Jeremy Lamorie, Andy Lamorie, Victor Gutierrez, Gabriel Moltrer, Bill Frashuer, David Rae Sr. Jim Casias  and  Kevin McClintock .

 Active Pallbearers are grandson Isaiah Gutierrez, nephews Clint Lovato, Charles Garcia, Jason Vigil, David Duran, and Cisco Zuniga.
