In Loving Memory of Tony Mascarenas

Tony Mascarenas, age 91, passed away on July 31, 2017 in Raton.

 

Tony is now on his journey to heaven to be united with his wife of 51 years Nancy. He was preceded in death by his sister Sarah and brother Eloy. He also joins three children Ruth Kenneth and Tony Jr. He is survived by Son Patrick and wife Helen and daughter Joyce and husband Marty Preston his grandchildren Michael, keven and Toni Lynn. The family would like to express a heart felt thank you and many blessing to Susie Mutton for all the care support and giving she has done she took care of him as a member of her family and we are eternally grateful. 
mascarenas tHe was born, June 28th, 1926 in Van Houton, New Mexico. He grew up on a ranch in Roy, New Mexico. Tony joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and fought in the Europcan Theater. He was in the Tank Corp., and among the many battles and excursions he fought was the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. After the war, he continued in the military, driving a truck throughout Western Europe. After his service he came and went to work in the mines. He worked as a coal miner for over three decades. He was an electrician and was heavily involved in safety for the miners, which he took very seriously. He was also involved in the UMWA Union for over 70 years. He went to Washington to negotiate for a contract when the miners were on strike. Tony was a lifetime member of the VFW, holding office at various times. After his retirement, Tony enjoyed spending winters with his wife in a retirement community in apache Junction, AZ. One of his many loves he has was playing pool, which he enjoyed through most of his life. He loved to have a good time and always had an open ear to listen to anyone who had a problem or just needed to vent. In his later years at Miners LTC, his buoyant personality and wry sense of humor made all the staff fall in love with him. Tony was loved by many and has helped many people throughout his life. His family knows that they were Blessed by having such a caring and loving father, He will be dearly missed by everyone and has left on indelible mark on everyone he has touched. 
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be on Thursday, August 10, and 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with Deacon Tom Alderette. Solomon Mass of the Resurrection will be on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. with Father Bill Woytavich as the Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
