In Loving Memory of Mary Louise Borquez

Mary Louise Borquez, born November 7, 1944, was embraced by our Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 29, 2017 in Raton, NM. She was welcomed into heaven where she joined her parents Henrietta Maes and Edward Zamora, longtime companion Salomon Mares, and her close Auntie Laura Castillo.

Mary Louise worked wholeheartedly as a nurse’s assistant for Miners’ Hospital and retired from Miners’ Colfax Medical Center. Her hospital career ran full circle from obstetrics to geriatrics.

Mary Louise was a compassionate woman. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to hospital residents, the community, and to her own family.
She absolutely loved nature. Streams, landscapes, wildlife, and particularly autumn foliage excited her. She could always predict snowfall by the relative temperature and would rush toward the window to watch the freshly fallen snow.
She was always in the company of family. Her contagious smile and mild humor warmed up any room. She was always present at birthday parties, graduation ceremonies, memorials, and she always had a soft spot for weddings and anniversaries.
She was a member of the church and would travel to worship. She could quote scripture and sing hymns. She enjoyed participating in the chorus and even picked up playing the keyboard.

She is survived by her brothers Jimmy Chavez of Bridgeport, NE, Raymond Zamora of Trinidad, CO, Danny Zamora of Denver, CO, and Leroy Zamora of Trinidad, CO. Sisters Mary Francis Zamora of Pueblo CO, Suzette Zamora of Trinidad, CO. Sons Leroy Maes of Raton, NM, John Mares of Santa Fe, NM, and Edward Mares of Las Cruces, NM. Grandsons Leroy Maes of Raton, NM and Ben Maes of Raton, NM and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Thursday May 11, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home at 244 N 1st Street, Raton, NM with Pastor Odillia Sintas officiating.
