In Loving Memory of Lawrence J.Herrera

Lawrence Joseph Herrera, lifetime resident of Trinidad, Colorado, passed away Wednesday, March 23 at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado at the age of 72.

Among family and friends, Lawrence was affectionately known as Loby.   Loby was born on September 25, 1943 in Trinidad, Colorado. He attended Trinidad public schools and graduated from Trinidad High School.  He went on to earn a degree in Building Trades from Trinidad State Junior College.  He held various occupations throughout his life until his retirement from Trinidad School District #1, where he worked in food service and as a custodian.

herrera lLoby loved all sports and was a devoted fan of the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, and the Colorado Avalanche, but his favorite team was the Trinidad Miners.  He could often be found in the stands at Central Park watching a Miner baseball game; and each summer he looked forward to the Trinidad Miner Baseball Alumni Weekend where he would cheer for his six nephews.  Loby loved music and spent every spare moment playing his guitar, writing his own lyrics, and singing praise songs to God.  He was a member of several local country bands and loved to entertain friends and family.

Loby was a true gentleman who was honest, kind, caring, and soft spoken.  He loved spending time with his family and would do anything for his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nefe and Julia Herrera, brother Joseph Herrera, brother and sister-in-law Ernest and Rachel Herrera, sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Nick Sanchez, and nephew Nick Sanchez Jr.  He is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Lucille and Charles Salas and Ruby and John Santistevan all of Trinidad.  He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

Loby was a wonderful brother, uncle, and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but as we cherish his memory, we are also celebrating his life. We look forward to being with him again in heaven. Heaven is a bit happier now that Loby is home.
