RHS Basketball is Here

High school basketball season is upon us as the Lady Tigers and Tigers hit the court in preparation for a quick start to the season.

The Lady Tigers will take on the Cimarron Lady Rams on November 21 in Raton while the boys first game will hit the court on December 1 in Questa.

Both coach Gilbert San Roman and Lady Tiger’s new coach Victor Esparza note the young teams they have to work with. The boys have only a few returning players while the girls return three varsity players. Coach Esparza has more of a job with his girls as most of the team is made up of sophomores and freshmen.

Coach San Roman will have the luxury of having a full JV team which will be used to prepare his younger players with less experience than the varsity players and as he noted he has enough boys that he can have a full varsity team that doesn’t rely on JV players to fill out the team.

After their initial opening games both teams will compete in tourneys starting with the TSJC tourney in Trinidad (Dec 4-6) and then the Cowbell tourney which will take place in Springer and Raton (Dec 9-13) then the following week the Black and Orange tourney in Clayton (Dec 18-20).

You can follow the teams on KRTN FM 93.9.
