In Loving Memory of Betty A. Short

Betty A. Short 91, Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed from this life September 26, 2014 in Albuquerque. Betty was born August 11, 1923 in Pretty Prairie, Kansas to Ora and Flossie Holdemen Manny.

After Betty and younger sister Marge graduated from high school, her family moved to California. Betty worked as “Rosie the Riveter” in an airplane factory. She went to Johnson Mesa to visit a cousin and met Oscar Short. They were married shortly after on February 27, 1944 in Raton, New Mexico. Betty lived most of her married life around the Folsom area.

Betty was Postmaster in Folsom for 20 years.

When her daughters were old enough to be in 4-H, Betty became an active leader and also enjoyed extension clubs. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts, sewing, crocheting, making things out of wood and wood carving. She was a founding board member and officer for the Folsom Museum and was very active in various community projects.

Betty is survived by daughters Judy Rife, La Junta, Colorado, Patsy (Larry) Blundell, Las Animas, Colorado, Billie (Joe) Salas, Albuquerque, New Mexico Lucinda (Alan) Horn, La Junta, Colorado, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and 1 sister Marge (Sprug) Burgman, Leonardville, Kansas and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Oscar, twin sons Gerald and Jerald Short, 1 great grandson Riley Newkirk, 2 sisters Velva Bradford and Dorothy Harrah and 1 brother Melvin Manny.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Folsom Museum, PO BOX 464, Folsom, NM 88419.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 1501 South 4th Street, Raton New Mexico.
