Master of the Mountains 2014 – KRTN Enchanted Air Radio

The Master of the Mountains Adventure Race took place around Raton Saturday Sept 13, 2014 under some of the best weather for the adventure race so far. It was a cool day that started out overcast and foggy in the higher elevations with light winds that turned to a warm Chamber of Commerce day.

With 25 individuals and eight teams the race started at 8:00 a.m. at the boat ramp at Lake Maloya. After a six mile run and a kayak ride around the lake contestants took off on bikes for about a 20 mile ride out to the Mountain Man Rendezvous site on the Whittington Center Property off of highway 555. There the racers pickup a shotgun and go through a course that includes shooting a shotgun in the prone position.
