In Loving Memory of Steven P. Porter

Steven P. Porter age 61, of Maxwell, NM. Passed away Monday March 24, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born Feb. 18, 1953 in Ogden, UT. The son of Lloyd and Sharon Clawson-Porter. Steven had worked for over 40 years in solid waste as waste manger for several companies. Steve started in the Solid Waste business in 1974, working for a small family owned business in boulder City, NV. He started at the bottom driving a garbage truck, four years later he was asked to take over the running of the company. In 1985 he took his first job with a major solid waste company in San Diego, CA. from there he worked for two more major solid waste companies in Texas, Wyoming and again in California, Maryland and Oregon. Concluding 40 years in the waste business. He learned about the waste disposal, landfill usage and recycling.

He worked for the city of Raton as the recycling coordinator. He was extremely proud of the results that were made here in Raton with the program. He firmly believed they were going to go farther and get even better. He started with NM Rural Water in Oct. of 2013. He would be setting up recycling programs in the small rural communities in New Mexico. They would be able to start their own recycling programs in their town. Hopefully someone will be able to take his ideas and continue the work he started and take it as far as he would have. He loved Collage Basketball and fishing at the Cimarron Canyon.

Steven was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Porter. He is survived by his wife Veronica of the home, two daughters, Misty Neilson of Boulder City, NV, and Jayme Porter of Carson City, NV. One son Ryan Porter of Sparks, NV. Father and step-Mother Lloyd and Darlene Porter of Lakewood, CO., sister Kathy Porter of St. George, UT. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Porter family.
Steve and Veronica were my best friends when they lived in Carson City.

We were so sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. He had been working with Harding County to help us get a recycle program started here. I had talked to him before his surgery and was so sad to hear that he had passed away. I am sending our deepest condolences from all of us in Harding County.
