In Memory of Clara Langley McFadden

Memorial services for Claire (Langley) McFadden, 68 of Portales, will be at 10:00 AM on Friday November 22, 2013 at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Donald Hay officiating.  A memorial service will also be held Monday November  25 in Springer NM at 10 AM at the Assembly of God Church officiated by Pastor Jerry Johnson.
Claire was born on September 8, 1945 in Warwickshire Rugby, England to Charles Samuel and Monica May (Oswell) Langley and died on November 17, 2013 in Portales of a lengthy battle with cancer. She came home to the United States on the “Queen Mary” at the age of 6 months. She was raised in Northern New Mexico in the small town of Farley, where the family farmed and ranched for many years. Claire graduated from Farley High School in 1963 and attended Eastern New Mexico University for two years. She met Daniel Weems in 1964 and they were married on February 28, 1965. Together they raised three boys, Michael Callan, James Daniel, and Kirk Charlton Weems.
Claire was a homemaker first and foremost and began driving a school bus in Portales, where she drove for 14 years. Her hobbies included gardening and canning, cooking, fishing, and photography. She loved to sing and enjoyed participating in the Floyd Country Jamboree for many years. She also spent many hours volunteering at the local Senior Center and meal site, and working with the elderly as a senior companion. 
Claire moved to Maxwell, New Mexico to care for her father before his death in 2002 and returned to Portales in 2007
Claire is survived by her sons: Michael (Renea) Weems of Lubbock, Texas, James (Ginger) Weems of Capitan, New Mexico, Kirk (Carrie) Weems of Roswell, New Mexico. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brett, Danon, Garrison and Quinton Weems and Drew Lucero, one sister, Judy Taylor and  companion Gayle Madsen of Maxwell, New Mexico. She is preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Erin Weems.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides of Presbyterian Hospice and her many friends who shared their love and prayers.
