IN LOVING MEMORY
JULI0 ALBERT TRUJILLO
January 4, 1939 – July 3, 2026
A life of faith, service, family and love that will never be forgotten. Julio Albert Trujillo, age 87, passed
away peacefully on July 3, 2026, with his beloved son Si by his side. He was born on January 4, 1939, in Heck Canyon, New Mexico, to Ike and Carlota Trujillo.
Julio spent his younger years helping his grandfather Adolfo Trujillo on the family ranch and later his grandfather Canuto Fernandez. He attended school in Taos, Wagon Mound, and Springer, graduating from Springer High School in 1958. Julio proudly served his country for 37 years in the United States Navy, United States
Army, and New Mexico Army National Guard, ultimately retiring as a Sergeant First Class. From 1960 to 1964, he served on active duty in the United States Navy, including more than three years of foreign and sea service. Julio was especially proud to have served aboard the USS Los Angeles and also served aboard the USS Colahan (DD-658). He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his honorable service and served as a cook and cook supervisor. Following his Navy service, Julio continued serving his country in the United States Army and, after returning home, the New Mexico Army National Guard. He served with Battery A, 6th Battalion (Chaparral), 200th Air Defense Artillery in Raton. After 37 years of dedicated military service, Julio retired as a Sergeant First Class and
was transferred to the United States Army Retired Reserve in 1992. In 1973, Julio married the love of his life, Dixie (Seidel) Trujillo. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. Julio also
worked for United Nuclear in Gallup, New Mexico, for a little over a year before continuing his career
as a welder at the York Canyon Mine. He spent 20 years at York Canyon, where he retired after a long and proud career. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA)
Local 7948 and took great pride in his work and the friendships he built alongside his fellow
miners. A skilled welder and natural craftsman, Julio was known for being able to fix, build,
or repair almost anything. His talents extended well beyond welding to plumbing,
carpentry, and, of course, making his famous salsa. When Dixie’s father, Frank Seidel, passed away in 1979, Julio and Dixie lovingly opened their home and raised her younger siblings, Linda and Sandy, as their own.
Throughout his life, Julio remained deeply rooted in his faith and community. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Raton, a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 1793. He enjoyed fishing, discussing current events, and, most of all, spending time with those he loved. During his later years, Julio resided at MCMC Long-Term Care, where he formed many
meaningful friendships. He enjoyed visiting with fellow residents, sharing stories, helping
others whenever he could, and always kept extra food in his room for anyone who might be
hungry.
Those who knew Julio knew they could always count on him. He never hesitated to lend a
helping hand to someone in need and never expected anything in return. Whether fixing
something for a neighbor, sharing a meal, or simply offering a kind word, Julio lived a life of
quiet generosity.
He faced every season of life with gratitude, humility, and an unmistakable sense of humor.
Even during his final days, he continued to joke with his family, friends, and caregivers,
reminding everyone that a smile could brighten even the hardest day. His laughter,
optimism, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate
enough to know him.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the extraordinary nurses, certified nursing
assistants, therapists, physicians, and every member of the MCMC Long-Term Care family.
Over the years, they became much more than caregivers—they became Julio’s friends and
our extended family. The kindness, compassion, dignity, patience, and love they showed
Julio throughout his years at MCMC will never be forgotten.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Christine Lopez. Through her
exceptional medical care, compassion, and dedication, Julio was blessed with precious
additional years to create memories with his family and friends. Those years were an
incredible gift, and we will forever be grateful for everything she did for Julio.
Julio was preceded in death by his firstborn son, Heath Albert Trujillo; his parents, Ike and
Carlota Trujillo; and his sister, Theresa Fernandez.
Julio is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Dixie (Seidel) Trujillo; his son, Si Trujillo, and
wife, Mia Trujillo; his cherished grandsons, Hunter and Levi Trujillo, with Levi proudly
carrying on his grandfather’s middle name as his namesake; his sisters, Elsie Ortiz and
husband Richard, and June Crespin and husband Phil; his brother, Adolfo Trujillo and wife
Anita; his many beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart;
and the family’s beloved dog, Heidi, who brought him endless joy.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, support,
and acts of kindness during this difficult time.
The most Holy Rosary, Funeral Mass, and Burial will be held to honor Julio on Friday,
August 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 605 5th Street, Springer, New
Mexico 87747.
Arrangements for Julio Albert Trujillo have been entrusted to Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral
Home.
