Charlotte Ramoncita Martinez
( July 31, 1931 – January 20, 2025 )
Charlotte Ramoncita Martinez was born in Cimarron, NM on July 31, 1931, to her parents, Petrolino and Rita Grine.
Charlotte grew into a beautiful woman and a fine example of a human being to all who knew her. She was an incredible cook, homemaker, mother, grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend.
Charlotte was a hard worker, who maintained that work ethic throughout her 93 years. As a teenager she worked in the fields of La Junta, Co. She worked at the Old Greyhound Bus Depot as a cook and cashier; was also employed as a custodian at Elco Metal Products. She worked for the Colfax County Senior Companion Program while also volunteering. She and Ignacio were actively involved with both the Republican and Democratic parties.
She was known as kind, generous, and loving, had a great sense of humor that she maintained to the end of her journey. Charlotte lived to give to others. She was an active volunteer for most of her silver, gold, and platinum years. She left us with the importance of service to others.
She Loved God, her family, and most humans. She had a soft spot and love for animals, often taking on lost pups and cats as her own and providing food and shelter to hungry neglected pets.
She loved to read…everything she could get her hands on. She loved dancing and listening to music.
Charlotte loved to serve her community as a volunteer; she spent twenty-five plus years engaging with the residents of Miners Nursing Home on a daily basis and continued offering her service as often as she could, well into her later years. Ironically, Charlotte spent the last four years of her life as a resident at Miners Nursing Home, closing a loop of community caring. Along with her sense of humor were her twinkling eyes and smile that lit up a room.
She truly touched everyone lucky enough to know her. One person was a handsome fella, named Ignacio Martinez. Long story short, they fell in love, married, and had children. Charlotte and Ignacio were inseparable, as people in Love should be.
Charlotte lost her Love Ignacio in 2020. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Petrolino and Rita Grine; brothers Juan Martinez, Pedro (Pete) Martinez, Toby Martinez, and John Grine Sr; sister Mela Cordova; grandchildren Judy, Wayne, Shane, Christopher, and Albert; and a baby daughter named Virginia Martinez.
Charlotte is survived by daughters, Pearl (Filbert) Ford, Gloria Maestas, Earlene (Mark) Mogavaro, Debra (Chad) White, Dolores (Javier) Martinez Lopez; sons Gilbert Ray Montoya, Ignacio Manuel Martinez, Telesfor Daniel Martinez (Zsuzsanna); special nieces Julia Marquez and Lupe Alderette; special nephews Bobby Grine and Alex Grine; numerous Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and Great- Great- Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and Friends.
Charlotte shared a special relationship with physician Mark Bayliss. This relationship was one filled with respect, care and most importantly, trust. He tended to her medical needs with the kindest personal care, especially as her health changed. He was present as she journeyed to her forever home.
Charlotte’s family would like to recognize the staff of Miner’s Nursing Home who offered Charlotte an extremely loving and familiar home these last four years; always offering a laugh, smile, and the occasional dance.
To know her was to Love her. And although her journey here on earth ended, we will continue with her story.
See You Later Alligator!
