George Frederick Nelson II, age 71, of Boncarbo, CO passed away in 2024. He was born on
November 26, 1952 in Alexandria, Virginia. George had a passion for travel and exploration,
spending 6 months in South Africa when he was 18 years old working on game reserves. After
returning to the United States, in 1973 he followed his heart out West to Fort Collins, CO to
attend school at Colorado State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in
agriculture. While in Fort Collins, he had two children and opened his own construction
company. In 1985, he moved with his family to Georgia where he resided until 1996, then
moved back to Virginia to take care of his aging mother. He eventually returned to Colorado in
2016 where he found solitude on his property in the Trinidad area, where he resided until his
death. George was a lover of all nature, particularly the warmth of the Gulf of Mexico and
sunshine. George had a kind but funny soul, with a soft spot for animals and children.
George is survived by his children, Erica Nelson Poulos (Sisters, OR) and Adam Charles Nelson
(Lakewood, CO). He had four grandchildren, Brecken Riley Poulos (12), Hayden Sage Poulos
(8), Jack Brian Nelson (7) and Georgia Kate Nelson (3). He is predeceased by his father, Carl B.
Nelson, his mother Sara B. Nelson, his sister, Nancy Worsley and his brother, Carl B. Nelson Jr.
(Skipper).
The family will honor his life in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please donate on his behalf
to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in CO.
