John Scott Ellis
( August 18, 1966 – January 14, 2025 )
On January 14, 2025, John Scott Ellis, beloved son, husband, and father, left this world and entered the Kingdom of Heaven. He has gone to his father’s house, where there is no pain, sadness or hurt. John, passed away peacefully at home, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to his family.
Born on August 18th, 1966, John was the cherished son of his mother Sara J. Ellis. His mother spent every moment she had with him. Playing pranks on each other, eating bean burritos for breakfast and traveling so he knew the world was a big and beautiful place. His mother and extended family instilled in him the values of compassion, hard work, and integrity. His gentle spirit and easygoing nature made him a friend to all who knew him.
John was a loving and devoted husband to Betty J. Ellis, with whom he shared almost 40 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a beautiful life, full of memories, experiences, and an unwavering commitment that they honored as long as they lived. That love will be cherished forever.
As a father, John was an unwavering source of support and encouragement to his children. He took great pride in their accomplishments, supporting any dream or aspiration. His commitment to their well-being and happiness was evident in all that he did. His greatest joy was being a father. He has three beautiful children that will continue to shine his light on the world.
In addition to his role as a family man, John was known for his incredible work ethic for Cummins Natural Gas Engines. John was a Financial Analyst and Certified Public Accountant. His dedication to the plant and co-workers earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers. He was always working for the betterment of everyone he worked with. During his most difficult times, Cummins has incredible prayer warriors that kept John and his family at the forefront of their lists. Scott Odom and Crystal May were unfaltering in their friendship and prayers.
John’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be remembered for his generosity, his corny jokes, and his profound ability to make others feel valued and loved.
John is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Katanna; her wife Danilynn, Shelby; her husband Devyn, and Matthew; daddy’s little bubby, mother, Sara; and his Aunt Sonia and Uncle Frank Geasa, Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Don Swigart, Mother in-law; Josephine Mondragon, Aunt; Helen May, Brother in-law John Mondragon; wife Tereasa, Sister in-law Joan Sintas; husband Gary, Sister in-law Maria Bullard; husband Willis, Sister in-law Judy Lucio, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his grandfather John Hershberger, grandmother Vena Hershberger, Aunt Lucille Wood, Uncle Charles Wood, Father-in-law Seprano Mondragon, brother-in-law Fred and James Mondragon, and Uncle George May.
A celebration of John’s life will be held privately in Raton, NM where his family will lay him to rest.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Way of Eastern New Mexico, this organization‘s cause was close to John’s heart. He spent many volunteer hours working with them for the betterment of anyone they could help. He had a giving heart and requested that those who love him honor this request to be kind and always have a helping hand to lift up others.
Rest in peace, John. You leave a space that no one can fill, but you instilled a love that will live on.
