Tracie “Kanani” Kapua Kalehuawehe, a spirited adventurer and beloved sister, passed
away on December 25, 2024, at her home in Weston, Colorado. Born on February 5, 1970,
Kanani embraced life with an unmatched zest for exploration and discovery. Her wanderlust soul
led her to countless adventures, creating stories that would be cherished by all who knew her. Her
tough and resilient nature belied the soft and gentle soul that lived within her.
Kanani was a true jack of all trades, mastering every endeavor she pursued with
determination and skill. Her resourcefulness and hard work were matched only by her passion
for living life to the fullest. A devoted dog lover, she fostered and cared for many dogs
throughout her life, offering them love and a safe haven. She was also a fierce protector of her
family and a woman of deep faith, guided by her love for God.
Kanani is preceded in death by her grandparents, Mercedes and Richard Phillips of
Folsom, New Mexico, and her father, William Kalehuawehe Jr. of Mesa, Arizona. Left to cherish
her memory is her mother, Deborah Phillips of Trinidad, Colorado; her brothers Billy (Gina)
Kalehuawehe, Joshua (Shannon) Kalehuawehe, John Kalehuawehe, and Daniel (Jessica)
Kalehuawehe; her sisters Chelsie (Wyatt) Kalehuawehe, Tanya (Travis) Moore, Kristin Malulani
Kalehuawehe, Maile Kalehuawehe, and Hannah Kalehuawehe; her children Kenneth (Alice)
Adams, Keith Adams, Karrie (Chris) Herron; uncles Dan Phillips of Texas, Richard Phillips of
Raton, Keith Lofties of Texas; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she
adored.
In honor of Kanani’s far-reaching connections and the immense love she inspired among
family and friends, a Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held in the spring to allow time for
planning. Kanani’s adventurous spirit and boundless love will forever remain in the hearts of
those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her loss.
