It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Arcilia Lopez, 85 of Raton announce her passing on December 18th after a brief illness. Arcilia was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Lopez, Sr., son, Gilbert Lopez, Jr., grandson Philip Lopez and brother Alvin Sedillo. She is survived by children Evelyn Baker, Kenneth Lopez and wife Sudathip, Janet Lopez, Carla Cook and husband Greg, Eddie Lopez and wife Michelle, Jordan Lopez, Jamie Lopez and Jazlyn Lopez and daughter-in-law Shirley Lopez. She is also survived by grandchildren Gilbert, Carlos, David, Eutimio, Amanda, Andrew, Senovia, Sophia and Daniel and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Isidro Sedillo and Elsio Sedillo and sisters Eloisa Vigil and Eva Garcia. Arcy, as she was affectionately known, was the fourth of six children born to Carlos and Doloritas Sedillo on Christmas morning, 1938 in Lucero, New Mexico, a farming community near Mora, New Mexico.
She graduated from Raton High School in 1958 and married Gilbert Lopez, Sr. on July 2, 1958. They soon began a family and lived for many years on the TO Ranch before moving to Raton in 1971.The foundation of Arcy’s life was her relationship with Jesus Christ. In 1974 she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and served Him by serving others. She was a woman of great faith and prayer with a love for the Word of God that shaped her, and her family’s lives. Arcy could always be found doing for others whether that was her family, friends or neighbors. She lived to serve and love others, and she did it with her whole heart and as unto her Lord. Countless stories could be told of her powerful and prevailing prayers for so many.
Funeral services for Arcy will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Raton, New Mexico. Interment will follow at Fairmont Cemetery.
