LaVaughn (Vonnie) Cummings, 74, died Nov. 26, 2024. She was born Sept. 16, 1950, in Walsenburg, CO., to Louie and Wilma (Bone) Austi.
She grew up in Aguilar, attended school, and graduated in 1969. She married Donald Cummings in 1971 and they were married for 43 years.
She was a member and past president of the Las Animas County Cowbells and the past president of the Colorado Cattlewomen’s Association. She was a loving wife and mom who loved to cook, bowl and be involved with the Cattlewomen. She was also a big Broncos fan. She was an original member of the 911 board. She was also the campaign manager for former Sheriff Lou Girodo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her son Cameron J. Cummings; grandchildren Madison Gagliardi, Chase Cummings, and Peyton Cummings; great-grandchildren Gracie and Mackinnon Gagliardi; and her sister Jerri Porreca.
Visitation will be at the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home (The Chappell House) on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The funeral service will follow the visitation at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Trinidad Masonic Cemetery.
The family has entrusted Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home with the arrangements.
