Leroy Joe Maes, age 77, Died on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in Grants, New Mexico.

Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bueyeros, New Mexico. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the Rosary at 10:00 AM with Fr. Agustin Henderson as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Bueyeros Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico. The family will have a reception at St. Joseph Catholic Church Hall in Mosquero, New Mexico following the burial. Leroy Joe Maes was born in Bueyeros, New Mexico on December 13, 1946. He grew up on the Maes Family Ranch. He graduated from Regis University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He moved to Grants, New Mexico to pursue his teaching career and met his future wife in 1969. He married Rose in 1970 and had one son in 1972. He received his master’s degree from Western New Mexico University and continued his education career as principal/ teacher in Cibola County until he retired in 1995. He moved back to the Maes Ranch and followed his passion for ranch life. He loved the ranch and contributing to the community. He worked for the Harding County Treasurer’s office for several years and was appointed to the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum as a board member. Leroy was a loving Brother, Husband and Father. He was married for 54 years.  He loved to travel, was a jack of all trades, and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

WIFE: Rose Maes of Bueyeros, New Mexico.

SON: Dr. Les Maes and his wife Veronica of Georgetown, Colorado.

2 BROTHERS: Patrick Maes and his wife Rose Ann of Vaughn, New Mexico and Archie Maes and his wife Stella of Amarillo, Texas.

1 SISTER: Ruby Blea and her husband Don of Tucson, Arizona.
