Mary Lou Archuleta

Mary Lou Archuleta, 86, of Springer, New Mexico passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 20, 2024. She was born in Wagon Mound on October 27, 1937, to Elauterio and Manuelita Salazar (Maes). She graduated from Wagon Mound High School in 1956. Soon after, she married the love of her life, Crescencio Archuleta, on October 10, 1957. Together, they moved to Springer in 1960 to grow their loving family.
Mary Lou made friends wherever she went. In the early years, she worked at Linder Drug Store and Colfax General Hospital and Nursing Home. She was later employed by Springer Municipal Schools where she continued her love of cooking and serving others. Mary Lou completed her professional servitude with Professional Home Healthcare providing companionship and care to elderly clients.
Mary Lou will be remembered as a loving and giving person who always ensured other’s needs were met before hers. Whether it was homemade jellies, panocha, biscochitos, tamales, empanadas, or any other treats she found a recipe for; she ensured all her friends had a homemade plate of goodies for the holidays. Mary Lou was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Springer where she was also involved with the Altar Society. She was also active in Springer Senior Citizen Center where she and her beloved husband were crowned Valentine’s Day King and Queen. Some of Mary Lou’s other pleasures included playing slot machines at various casinos, joining friends at Supper Club outings with the Senior Center, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elauterio and Manuelita Salazar, husband, Crescencio Archuleta and son, Donald Archuleta; brothers, Max, Eloy, Alex, Don and sister, Lita Garcia; grandchildren, Cassie Martinez and Adam Tapia and great-grandson, Alias Jacob Martinez.
Mary Lou is survived by her loving children, Crescencio (Chris) Jr. and spouse Deborah; Cecelia Montoya and husband, John; Angela Sierra and husband, Gene; Michelle Archuleta, and Michael. She is also survived by grandchildren, Celina and husband Jimmy Apodaca, Erika Lucero and husband, Gabe, Daniel Sierra and wife Kim, Jared Sierra, Christian Martinez, Estevan Tapia, Connie Martinez, and Natasha Archuleta; great-grandchildren, Audriana, James Jr.(JJ), Jaycee and Kyle Apodaca; Liliana (Lily), Lucas and Liam Lucero; Noah and Naomi Tapia, Layla Tapia, Dawson Ashe and her sister Isabel Gonzales, special grand-dog and companion, Roscoe, also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springer, immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. She will then be laid to rest at the Springer Cemetery.
