Raton Police managed to catch a couple of suspects in the act of a break in at the car wash at 109 Grant in Raton in the early morning hours of February 7, 2024.
Police were flagged down by the owner of the Hometown Carwash, John Brown who reported someone in the pump house. After gaining entry into the building Melvin Mills was located behind the door and placed under arrest. Another suspect was found hiding behind pumps in the building. Brandon Castellano was also arrested and placed in handcuffs and in the police unit.
Somehow Castellano managed to get the window in the police unit rolled down and escaped heading south into a field where a search began. Castellano managed to get back to Trinidad where he was later arrested in court in Trinidad where he showed up to answer to charges in Trinidad.
Both individuals were charged with nonresidential burglary, criminal damage to property over $1000, possession of burglary tools, Larceny Over $250 but under $500, resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer (resisting). Castellano will also be charged with Escape form the custody of a police officer.
