James F. Montoya, 79, died January 20, 2024. He was born July 24, 1944, in Valdez, CO, to John and Patsy (Gonzales) Montoya.
He graduated from Primero High School in 1962 and lived in Chicago, Denver, and Trinidad. He loved hunting fishing, and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Montoya; sisters Elaine Nikolov and Christine Maldonado.
He is survived by his children Patricia (Brian) Knox, John (Jacque) Montoya, Donna Montoya, Jaime Montoya, and Eric (Lea) Montoya. 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sisters Teresa (Cruz) Longoria, Delores (Pete) Martinez, multiple nieces nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Chappell House (aka Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home) 335 East Main Street, Trinidad, Colorado. Funeral mass will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
The family has entrusted Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home with the arrangements.
