William G. Groves passed away on November 5, 2023, in Raton. He was born on February 20, 1929, in Raton to the late Edward and Catherine Bartholomew Groves.
Bill attended St. Patrick’s Academy and was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.
He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and was stationed at the Submarine Base, Subic Bay, Lujon, Philippine Islands, serving with the 6th Fleet.
In 1950 he married Jeanne Stoller, his love for 75 years.
Bill joined the US. Navy Air Force during the Korea War, serving with the 8th Air Force, 509th Bomb Wing. In 1953, he began his career in cable TV with ARF Products in Raton. In 1960, Bill helped ARF rebuild the cable plant to increase the channel capacity to three channels plus FM.
He left cable for a few years but returned to the Cabler TV Industry in 1980 as an installer/technician for Mesa Cable and then was promoted to General Manager. Bill retired in 1991 as General Manager of TCI Cable Systems.
Family always came first. He was a loving devoted husband father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He truly loved his family, and his grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Jack, Edward (Buddy), and Harry. Two sisters, Catherine Garcia and Alice Romero. Sister-in-law Thelma Groves, brothers-in-law Ben Romero and Glenn Stoller.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne, two sons, Mike and wife Melody of Albuquerque, Terry of Albuquerque, and daughter Lori Blasi and husband Dom of Trinidad. Four granddaughters, Erin Montoya (Ray), Haley Crawford (Adam), Alexis Padilla and Ashley Romer (Daniel). Five great-grandsons, Colton, Mykael, Zaden Liam, and Oliver.
