The Lady Dons traveled up I-25 to Raton Tuesday for a district match in Tiger Gym against the Lady Tigers where they swept all three matches.
The C-team hit the court first with the first game staying close with ties early on and again at 23 before West pulled it out as Raton simply struggled with the vollies. In game two West pulled out in front and took off holing Raton to only 13 points for the win. Both teams showed their inexperience during the match with missed passes and hits.
The JV match went much the same way as the C-team match except that West took off in game one and simply went two for one with Raton. The JV team showed signs of power and made several hits that unfortunately were returned over the net to fall in the open spots. Game two saw Raton perform just as well but fell short again in the scoring after starting off slow as Lady Don Emma Romero put up seven points before Raton marked the scoreboard 7-0.
The varsity match saw Raton struggle in game one going down 4-0 and then down by as much as seven mid way through the game. Raton made some good plays and looked as though they could come back but just couldn’t over come the deficit.
In game two the Lady Tigers sparked to life as they tied the game at seven and again at 14 and 15. West however played a strong net game and even had the soft hits to offset their hard slams to keep Raton off guard. It was 24-20 and a long volley kept spectators on the edge of their seats until Raton miss fired and the ball went out of bounds for the loss.
Game three saw West take off and go 4-0 but allowed Raton to shine and tie at five. West pulled ahead by a few points and allowed Raton to get close finally tying the game at 22 and 23. Long follies followed and kept the suspense up but West prevailed and pulled out the win by two 25-23.
