Luna Student Marisol Maestas Celebrates With Family, Instructors

The lights may have gone off on Friday afternoon on July 21 because of a hailstorm that hit the Las Vegas area, but the lack of electricity didn’t dampen the mood for 2023 Luna dental assisting graduate Marisol Maestas who celebrated her accomplishment among many family members and Luna staff at the college.

Maestas took part of a traditional pinning ceremony that was started several years ago honoring dental assisting graduates. What made this one extra-special was that Maestas is the lone graduate of the program this year.

“I really enjoyed the program, overall,” said Maestas.
“Denise (Fox) and Gloria (Pacheco) (both instructors) really helped me a lot. Not only did I learn about dental assisting, they helped me overcome my shyness.”

Maestas is scheduled to take her state board examinations on Aug. 17 and once she passes, Maestas has a job waiting for her at a local dentist’s office.

“Marisol is a very dedicated, optimistic and attentive individual,” said Pacheco. “She is an amazing dental assistant.”

Several dozen family members were by Maestas’ side as she read the dental assistant’s pledge. As part of being a dental assistant, Maestas pledged to be passionate about her patients and dedicated to her profession.

Maestas said that she plans to look into dental hygiene school. She is a 2022 West Las Vegas graduate.
