Cruz Garcia

Cruz Garcia, aged 93, passed away on January 31, 2023, in Albuquerque NM.
Cruz was born in Raton, NM on December 20, 1929, to Melisandro and Ignacia (Maestas) Leal. Cruz married the love of her life, Louis Pete Garcia on September 18, 1948,
he preceded her in death on March 19, 2003.
In addition to her husband and parents, Cruz is preceded in death by her son Louis Jr., sisters Annie, Susie, Isabel, Mary Jane, Georgia, Patricia, and brother Ruben.
Cruz is survived by her children, Pat (George) Wagner, Charles (Beth) Garcia, Steve (Kathie) Garcia, Tom (Melissa) Garcia, and Kristin Trujillo; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; her brothers Eloy (Nancy) Leal and Bill Leal; numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Cruz will be remembered for her sense of humor, selfless love, creativity, and her endless thirst for knowledge. Her spiritual and intellectual curiosity drew her to many retreats with her friends in Glorieta, NM, and numerous lectures and other conferences around the state. She poured love into cooking delicious meals for loved ones throughout the years. A talented seamstress, she created beautiful clothes, quilts, afghans, and needlework. An avid reader since childhood, she spent countless hours at the local library and instilled a love of books in her children. As a catechism teacher for many years at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, she modeled the values that she taught the youth of the community. When she and her close friend Jenny Armijo saw a need in the community, the two of them founded a funeral ministry where they devoted many hours and resources to help prepare and serve food to lessen the burden on grieving families.
Up to the day she departed, Cruz had an amazing memory and wit, sharing lots of wild and funny stories and songs with her family and friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held May 6, 2023, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
