Caroline Charlotte Kokjohn, 95, of Trinidad, passed away on July 1, 2022, in Greeley, Colorado.
Caroline was born in Jansen, Colorado on February 1, 1927, to Joseph and Mary (Glaviano) Riggio. She was educated in Jansen, Colorado, Trinidad High School, and Trinidad State Junior College. She enjoyed playing saxophone in the high school band. She was active in school sports and participated in team and league sports throughout her life. After college, she began working at M&M Distributing where she met her future husband, Fred (Fritz) Kokjohn. They were married in Holy Trinity Catholic Church on October 30, 1949, and they were life-long parishioners there. She was involved in groups and organizations such as Hobby Club, PTA, Catholic Daughters, DCCW, and Altar Society. When her youngest child started school, she began working as a manager and cook in the cafeteria at the Trinidad Catholic schools. She was a volunteer at the Colorado Welcome Center for 34 years. She enjoyed many vacations and camping with her husband and children. In her retirement years, she and her husband continued to travel throughout the world. She liked gardening, crafting, and caring for her pets.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred E. Kokjohn, her son Fred J. Kokjohn, her daughters-in-law Janice (Iuppa) Kokjohn, Crisanta (Torres) Kokjohn, her sisters, Pauline Bonfadini, Sr. Rosalie Riggio and Carmela Riggio, granddaughter Virginia Van Westen, and many beloved extended family members and friends.
Caroline is survived by her children, Loretta (Doug) Van Westen, Janine Funk, Carol (Danny) Alexander, Mary Lou (Tom) Risley, Christopher Kokjohn, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorials can be made in Caroline Kokjohn’s name to Most Holy Trinity Church Restoration Fund, or to the H.R. Sayre Senior Center.
Visitation will be Monday from3pm-7 pm at the Comi Chapel.
Rosary will be recited Monday, July 11, 2022, at 7 pm at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 10 am at Holy Trinity Church.
Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery,
