In Loving Memory of Peggy Jo Clareese Cook

Peggy Jo Clareese Cook was born on April 3, 1936, to Joe and Clareese Cook in Douglas, Arizona. She began her new life on April 10, 2022, at 9:10 PM. She is survived by her son James Neil Segotta and wife Terri, daughter Cindy Segotta-Jones and husband Carlton and sons Faron Segotta and wife Mickie, and Justin Bruce Segotta and wife Melinda. Sisters JoAnn (Dale) Bass, Sue Lark, and Debbie Ulibarri. Brother-in-law Jan Segotta and sister-in-law Jennifer Sue Love.

She will be dearly missed by 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim along with her parents and brothers Ray, Bud, and Charles.

Peggy loved her family dearly. Becoming a grandparent and great-grandparent brought her immense joy. You could see her beautiful eyes light up and her voice becomes filled with love as “Nanny” spoke or visited with them. Many summers and holidays, Nanny was surrounded by her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking them to the annual Raton 4th of July celebrations on Main Street or just sitting around the kitchen table decorating holiday cookies.

Peggy was her beloved husband Jim’s right hand during the time they owned Jim’s Exxon. In between taking care of the household she was the bookkeeper for the station and ran daily errands. When not running errands, Peggy enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and sewing for family and friends. All family members and dear friends have hand-crocheted Christmas stockings they proudly hang each year. Later when her children were grown, she had a part-time job at Hall’s Craft Store where she was in her element. She loved sharing her patterns and craft ideas with the customers. But Peggy’s most fulfilling work was found in taking her four children to boy scouts and campfire girls’ meetings, little league baseball, softball games, and school events.

Peggy and Jim were members of the First Baptist Church of Raton and regularly attended Sunday services. Peggy loved the Lord and found comfort in Him, especially during her final days. Peggy will be deeply missed by all who came to know her. Visitation will be Friday, April 15, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home in Raton. Services will be Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Raton with Pastor Cory Flanigan officiating, burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Raton.
